Mr. Kaiser is our EAL teacher and he has kindly shared some ideas for EAL students to maintain their English progress over the summer. These ideas are not only relevant for EAL students, but for all students to maintain their language growth over the summer:
Dear Parents, Hello, as we get ready for the summer holiday (and with some lucky people already on theirs !) I wanted to give you some ideas that will help your child to keep their English skills at a good level throughout the break. Often we find that, without regular practice, English levels can go down a little bit before we return in August so it is a good idea to keep some skills going if possible. Ideas: · A regular daily or weekly holiday diary – Draw pictures of their holiday and places, describe the pictures, make notes or full sentences on what we did, where we went, what we saw, who we were with etc... · Reading 15-20 minutes per day/evening. *This should be a book or comic or similar that they choose themselves and are interested in. · ‘English time’ – Speaking English for 10 minutes together/Playing board games with the family/Listening to music in English/Singing ! · English language TV or movies or Xbox/Wii games · Online games - Good sites : http://www.eslgamesplus.com/ http://www.esltower.com/ · Also, visit the GWA Weebly pages. You can find lots of Language (and Maths) resources on the ICT page. I hope this helps. Best wishes and enjoy your summer ! Children may find certain areas easier than other in a level (shapes vs. measurement) so feel free to jump around between levels depending on the topic. If the work is finished, children are strongly encouraged to review their skills by going back to the beginning and re-doing past IXL tasks. These can be found HERE.
