For our new unit, How The World Works, we would like to try out ThingLink (it's free) to organize our learning and resources. Info on the app can be found HERE.
Starting on Sunday 26th February, all students are required to bring an extra t-shirt, shorts and running trainers to their next swimming lesson in order to participate in the House Aquathlon competition. To find out more information about this competition and also see the live results over the next fortnight, please visit the Swimming Weebly page -
http://gwaswimming.weebly.com/elementary-aquathlon.html We will ensure that this activity is safe and accessible for all, thus students may complete the swim in the small pool or with the use of aids. Thank you very much in advance for your support… have a great day! Lottie Lucas Aquatics Director Well done to our Grade Four Dragons on the fantastic job they did on their souk. A lot of planning and prep work went into the making, promotion and selling of their products which netted an impressive 13,500 AED for Dubai Cares. All 4AP businesses made a profit and should be very proud of their effort and hard work. Thank-you to Leyla's father Mr Hani Kiwan for being a risk-taker and coming in to speak to us about his role in bringing products to the marketplace. It is always so enriching when the kids can see real-world applications of their enquiries.
The key points of the presentation helped to develop their understanding of the Market as an interconnected system. -That companies and retailers need to follow a system and process to launch a product/service into the marketplace. -They also had another opportunity to examine what makes people’s jobs enjoyable, the challenges that they have to face and the benefits of working cooperatively and kindly with others. The kid's, of course, had a million questions and were thrilled to have them answered. The kids also loved their bag of treats! Dear Parents and Guardians of 4AP,
I would like to take the opportunity to invite you to our Grade 4 Souk! The students have inquired into the market and the forces which influence the system. They are now moving into the action component of the inquiry and will develop and sell their goods and services in a marketplace. Please be aware that your child may be asking you to invest money in their business ideas. Each student will be requesting an investment not to exceed 50AED. On Wednesday, 25 January students will take their first shot run at being business owners in our grade four marketplace. Cost analysis forms a part of our unit. To assist us in analysing cost effectively, please keep any and all receipts from purchasing ingredients that go towards making products/services for the Souk. We will need evidence of all purchases to make the learning experience as authentic as possible. Please allow students to be their own leaders and work as a respectful teammate with their assigned business partners. The development of their products will be an opportunity to foster greater independence and self-led inquiry for your children. The event will take place on Wednesday, 25 January from 9:00 to 11:00. We will be hosting the Souk in the Peace Garden on the roof of the school building. To reach the Peace Garden, please take the elevators near the cafeteria to the third floor. You will see the garden right in front of you as you exit the elevator. Please, be aware that all of the profits will be donated to Dubai Cares. However, If you would like your investment back, inform me so that I can get that back to you before we send the donation off to the charity. Please note that we will only be sending that money back after the souk. We look forward to seeing you at the Souk! Don’t miss out on being a consumer in our marketplace as we wrap up our unit of inquiry How We Organize Ourselves. Thank you for your continued support. Kind regards, Ms. Pagoli Happy New Year and we hope that everyone is well rested and energised for the year ahead. We welcome 2017 with a rather busy first week back and a new member of our class. We warmly welcome Cem and his family to 4AP and the GWA community!
We also had our first field trip of the year with a trip to the Dubai Gold Souk. Our current unit (How We Organise Ourselves) will look at markets and the forces that drive the system. At the market, we were on the lookout for different parts of the system, the purpose of each part and how each of these parts are connected. We took our iPads and we were principled about how we used our devices. We were risk-takers and asked different people lots of questions. Hopefully were are more knowledgeable about how this rather complex and interconnected system functions and exists. It was great seeing the iPads come in yesterday! We plan on using them for our unit. Before we could begin using them, the class came up with some agreements on how to use the iPads appropriately. These agreements are a draft, and we will add and revise as we become used to having them in class.
- We only use our iPad when instructed to do so. - We won’t use our IPads in the hallways unless given permission to do so (No iPad Zombies) - We will place our iPads in safe places (not the floor), and it is locked when in our cubbies. - We will not let others use our iPads unless we have been instructed to do so. - We do not take photos of others without their permission. - We do not hand our passwords to anyone. - No iPads during break time because break time is for playing and chatting with friends. - With our parents' direct supervision, we have installed the list of apps handed out by the school. - Appropriate kid-friendly games are OK to have on our iPads, but we won't have an opportunity to play them in class or break. If we don’t follow our agreements, or if our use of our device takes away mine or others' learning, our iPads go to Ms Pagoli. |
My name is Audrey Pagoli and I am thrilled to be your child’s fourth grade teacher this year. We have so much wonderful learning planned and an incredible team of fourth grade teachers and specialists who will be supporting your children.
