Because of the shortened day of the Ramadan schedule, we will be having changes in our specials and single-subject classes. I have attached a copy of the 10-day schedule we will be using during Ramadan so you will know our PE days and Swimming days in advance.
Dear Parents:
GEMS World Academy is pleased to welcome Magrudy’s Book Fair to school next week. Please stop by the shop in Reception with your child and stock-up on great summer reading! The fair runs from 8:00 – 4:00 pm Sun – Wednesday and from 8:00 – 13:30 on Thursday. See you there! 4KW is REscheduled to go on Monday, 22nd May at 9:00 AM. The fair will be available for everyone all week but this is when 4KW students will have the opportunity to go during the school day. We have placed an envelope in each student's Communication Diary that you can use to send money for books should you choose to do so. However, there is no obligation to buy. Thank you! As always, please see me with any questions. Sincerely, Kristi In class today we discussed what was needed in of preparation for this unit of inquiry's summative task which is due next week. Students have previously learned the Scientific Method and the Inquiry Cycle which they will now need to use to conduct an experiment. As of today, students should be completing their research at home and bringing it to school so I can help them with organizing it. They have begun this by researching an experiment to shows either a chemical or physical change which they will conduct and record at home. Rules of the Experiment:
In our ICT lesson a few weeks ago, students learned to use the "THING LINK app" to layer different types of media to an image. They will now need to use this to connect and display evidence of learning. Class time will be used to gather evidence and to discuss the types of evidence other students are using to prove each part of the central idea and lines of inquiry. This document of evidence is what will be graded and needs to be turned in by Thursday, 18th May. I have attached a screenshot copy of the task on Google Classroom, a copy of the summative rubric and the image they will use to organize their evidence. Hope this helps.
Wild Wadi Night What: Wild Wadi night Where: Wild Wadi When: Friday, 28th April at 7:00 to 10:00 PM Why: To help raise money for disabled children to have fun By Claire In math we started working on geometry. Tessellation, rotations, translations, reflections. During this activity we got into our math groups and together we figured out how to make a tessellations. We also learned about angles and how to use a compass. During one of the activities we cut out shapes and glued it on a paper. We had to make it a rotation, translation and reflection. During our second activity we were learning about acute, obtuse, straight and right angles. It was lots of fun and we enjoyed it a lot. By: Camille and Ajiya Over the last week the students of 4KW have been working on a Procedure to explain their Class Jobs. The idea of this activity was to learn how to write a Procedure. This task will be getting us ready for our upcoming summative project. These procedures will also prepare the students for next year when they will be doing the PYP Exhibition. Just like all writing tasks, we started to brainstorm on what our jobs involved, and the steps to complete them. After brainstorming all our ideas, we started a rough draft, that included all our steps. We also learned that in order to complete a procedure we must state a Goal and make a List of Materials needed to complete the procedure. Next, we made sure that all the spelling and punctuation was correct. We edit everything we can find and rewrite it until we think we found all the mistakes. Then, we share our procedure with at least 3 of our classmates. They use a checklist to see if they can find any mistakes and if the steps make sense. Then they give us feedback on how we could improve our procedure. In the end, we Revise, and Edit our writing to make sure every thing is perfect. Finally, we submit it to Mrs.Wheeldon either on Google Classroom or Google Drive. We have learned a lot about writing and about the jobs everyone does in the classroom. Lately 4KW has been starting a new unit. It is How the World Works and we are studying about atoms and molecules. We have learned about a lot of things.
We liked learning about Matter. We found out that everything thing known to man has Matter and that it comes in 3 different states. The states are Gas, Solid and Liquid. We will be having our assembly this unit so make sure you will be there near the end of May. Also, as part of our summative we are required to have an app called Thinglink. We are having an ICT lesson to learn how to use it for our summative project. Last week 4KW performed in the fourth grade music concert. It was a BLAST!!!! We had so much fun and preformed wonderful music. First, we played our violin songs (A Fiddle Tune and A New World Symphony) Then we moved on to recorders and body percussion. Thank you so much parents for coming to the concert. Here is a link to the video: https://youtu.be/_yT1A7TTnbY Have a nice weekend! By Deniz and Camille Dear Parents,
On 23 March GWA Early Years and Elementary Students will have the annual Book Dress-Up Day. Here are a few guidelines to keep in mind for Elementary Students. We encourage the kids to dress in a way that makes a connection with ANY book. Nonfiction is especially encouraged. Working/dressing in GROUPS is also encouraged to add to the fun.
Thank you and ENJOY!! Betty Turpin Librarian |
